Underground Storage Tank Removal

Tank Removal

Millions of underground steel tanks without adequate corrosion protection will be removed from service, upgraded or replaced. The worst thing the owner of an unprotected steel tank can do is nothing.

Hill Services can evaluate the situation and establish a plan of action. Not all unprotected steel tanks need to be removed. Removal is required if tanks are leaking and removal is the only solution to the problem.

Also tanks must be removed (or permanently and properly closed) if the owner cannot meet the deadlines for leak detection, upgrading or other requirements of UST regulations.

What To Expect In Proper Tank Removal

UST removals are very dangerous because the system may have contained flammable and explosive products or hazardous substances and the work should only be done by highly experienced contractors.

The actual removal of the tank is done by first removing all product from the tanks.

Next all of the above ground tank fixtures are removed except the vent pipes which must remain until the tanks have been inverted.

ExcavationExcavation is then started at the tank tops where piping is disconnected and drained of any remaining product. The tanks are then inverted or purged of explosive vapors if they still exist. The excavation is then extended to the bottoms of the tanks and the tanks are lifted from the pit after the vent line is removed.

Hill Services Provides The EPA Approved Disposal Of Tanks.

Tank Disposal

Tanks should be removed from the site as soon as possible and taken to an approved disposal yard.
